As I mentioned in my last blog post “recipes,” recipes come at us from many different sources these days. We’ve already discussed ideas for storing recipes from family and friends. Now let’s move on to digital sources - recipes collected from Instagram, Pinterest, food blogs or other online websites.
Well you may have guessed from the title, there are A TON of apps for collecting, sorting and organizing recipes. Quite a few of these apps also offer options for creating grocery lists and weekly meal plans.
Now researching these things is not my strength (and someone else has already done the work!) so here are two articles for you to check out to determine which app might be best for you:
1. https://screenrant.com/2021-best-free-cooking-apps/ - FREE apps!
2. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-recipe-management-apps/ - apps to help organize your own recipes
In my personal journey I’ve tried different apps and found that the accessibility of adding my own recipes has been more complicated than I want to spend time on. Most of these apps are trying to sell you their meals and recipes, and while I’m open to their meals or recipes, ultimately what I was looking for was a way to organize the recipes I was collecting from all these different resources. Because let’s be honest, I really don’t need any more recipes!
So when I first wrote this article I was trying an app called “Whisk.” It’s FREE which is such a great word these days. And while it does offer a bunch of recipes for you to access, I’ve found that it’s actually really easy to save recipes from other sources, including your own creations. Honestly I was able to clear out 40 open browsers! That’s right folks. I AM an 85 year old woman in my 40 year old body. Technology is not necessarily my strong suit which is why I’ve provided the above resources for you to decide what’s most important for you.
But here’s the kicker, they just emailed to say “Whisk” has been changed to “Samsung Food.” 😫 I still need to do a bit of exploring. It looks the same, but I’m not sure. I’ll update this post soon. I will say that I’ve had the app for well over a year and I have yet to be asked for a cent AND the new “Samsung Food” has not asked for money yet either which was the budget I wanted to spend on this.
I also just found an app called “Recipe Book” which I might try if I don’t like the changes to “Whisk.”
However I will say, most of the recipe apps do say “in app purchases,” which I’m sure is to use the advanced parts of the app like the grocery lists and meal planning sections. If this is in your budget and you find these resources helpful then by all means! Always use the resources that you find helpful!
